Travis started with Penrose Physical Therapy with complaints of falling, unsteady balance and weakness. He was unable to balance on one leg. He reported daily pain up to a 7/10 in his various arthritic joints: neck, back, shoulders, and knees. Travis also had a disease called Myasthenia Gravis which affects the nerves and muscles. He had multiple areas that were painful and that made it very challenging to find what exercises would work for him.
We listened to his main concerns and addressed them one by one. We challenged his balance and worked on increasing his strength, endurance, and flexibility. We addressed all of these components for the lower body, core, and upper body. We worked on functional activities that would help him with tasks at home. His exercises and home program were reasonable and not overwhelming.
Over the course of working with the Penrose Team he was able to stand on one leg for 2 seconds! He was able to walk 5 minutes before needing a break. He was no longer falling or losing his balance. Pain rarely reached a 5/10 at the time of completing his physical therapy.
