WEEK 0-6
- Glenohumeral ER PROM:
- Position pt in 5°-20° ABD
- Work toward full range ER
- *If subscapularis muscle is repaired, check with M.D.
- Glenohumeral ABD PROM:
- 0°-90°
- When 60°-70° is met, it is ok to perform ER @ 45° ABD
- *If subscapularis muscle is repaired, check with M.D.
- Gross Shoulder Elevation (Scaption):
- 0°-90°
- No sagittal plane flexion stretch
- Elbow/Wrist ROM
- Postural Work:
- Upper Trapezius relaxation
- Active scapular retraction & depression
- Codman’s/Pendulums:
- *OK with M.D.
- Encourage walking program
- NO IR Stretch:
- Arm to stomach when elbow at side only
- Sling 24 hrs/day
- OK to remove pillow from sling @ 4 weeks post-op
WEEK 6-8
*Goal at 8 weeks: Full ER, scaption to 160° minimal pain
- Glenohumeral ER AAROM:
- Position pt in 0°-90° ABD
- Work toward full range
- *If subscapularis muscle is repaired, check with M.D.
- Scaption:
- Begin in Supine, when 150° is reached, move to upright
- 0°-160°
- No sling needed
- OK to use hand cautiously for functional tasks, ie typing
- OK to drive an automatic vehicle
- Aquatic therapy- with M.D. OK
WEEK 8-12
- Stretches : * Begin in Supine, when 150° is reached, move to upright
- Begin pure Flexion and ABD
- IR
- ER in full ABD
- Isometrics
WEEK 12
- Begin gentle isotonic exercises
- Closed chain exercises, ie wall push ups
- OK to drive stick shift car
- OK to run
WEEK 16
- RETURN TO SOME SPORTS, ie golf, fly fishing
WEEK 18
- RETURN TO SPORT
